World Challenge Day 2019

29 May 2019

#TakeBackYourStreets was the concept for the World Challenge day 2019 with the intention of stimulating physical activity in public spaces. The World Challenge Day is organized annually worldwide with the aim of combating physical inactivity in an urban environment and encouraging citizens to make it a daily habit to be physically active.

Also in Suriname, the AdeKUS Medical Faculty has been coordinating activities around this day for a few years. The challenge is to get as many people as possible active on one day for at least 15 minutes.

This year Tropenbos Suriname participated! We are together with some students from the 4th to the 6th class of the J.Th. Wenzel school and sporting colleagues from the green sector took up the physically active challenge. A total of 82 people participated under sporting guidance from the energetic Idris 'Yche' Saijo from Dansclub Danszon. Of course we also taught the students a bit more about the forest and nature in Suriname. With activities being done at the Cultuurtuinlaan we ask attention to the importance of more green space in the city and residential areas for sports, recreation and well-being.

To move is to live, to live is to move
